The management company of a brand-new apartment complex is clearly failing to fulfill its responsibilities. A proactive resident, Lyubov, a mother of two who moved into the apartment after a divorce, takes matters into her own fragile hands, hoping to make things better for everyone. Dramatisation of the novel of the same name written by Sindiwe Magona about Amy Biehl, an American journalist murdered in Cape Town in 1993, and the 2012 play based on it. Based on the intimate one-woman play staged by singer, actress and playwright, Thembi Mtshali, the film seeks an understanding from the mother as she explains the direct consequences of apartheid, which influenced her son's actions.

Henri Verneuil was born Achod Malakian of Armenian parentage on October 15, 1920, in Rodosto, Turkey, and his family fled to France and settled in Marseilles when he was a young child. He later recounted his childhood experience in the novel Mayrig, which he dedicated to his mother and made into this 1991 film with the same name.
